Inspired by the elegant Belle Époque, THE DUCHESS opened its doors in June 2015 in the historic KAS Bank building of the W Hotel Amsterdam.

The name THE DUCHESS is inspired by the traditionally aristocratic or royal presence, known for its sophistication, elegance, and class. THE DUCHESS’ varied menu features eclectic classics with a fresh twist, and dinner is served in an elegant setting illuminated by chandeliers and candles, creating a truly refined experience.
But the experience doesn’t end with the food. THE DUCHESS boasts an impressive wine cellar, featuring an exceptional selection of the world’s most exclusive wines. Each bottle has been handpicked to complement the restaurant’s exquisite dishes and indulgent desserts, ensuring that every sip enhances the overall dining experience. The Cuisine of THE DUCHESS
The dinner menu at THE DUCHESS is inspired by the light and refined flavours of southern France and Italy, also known as Nouveau-Niçoise Cuisine. Exquisite ingredients are transformed into acclaimed dishes such as Dover Sole Meunière, Beef Wellington, and THE DUCHESS Seafood Pasta. All dishes are carefully prepared in the state-of-the-art, custom-made Molteni kitchen. The kitchen itself is a spectacle, featuring the exclusive chef’s table right in the heart of the action.
In addition to the elegant dinner hour, THE DUCHESS welcomes its guests throughout the day with the same refined grace. Indulge in a freshly baked Pain au Chocolat, its golden, buttery exterior giving way to rich, velvety chocolate that melts in your mouth. Or, for something more savoury, enjoy perfectly poached eggs, their delicate whites and rich yolks a testament to the culinary expertise of the chefs. As one would expect from nobility, Afternoon Tea has earned a prominent place in the restaurant; a charming experience straight out of Alice in Wonderland, enhanced with an abundance of sweets. The extravagant display of tiered cakes in the Tea Salon offers an assortment of speciality pastries.
These are complemented by savoury treats, scones served with signature jams and homemade macarons. All are paired with one of the many exclusive tea blends, or true to THE DUCHESS’ royal nature, a glass of champagne.
The Drinks
All drinks at THE DUCHESS seamlessly integrate into the dining experience, starting with a clever selection of punches and some highly creative adaptations of the “French and Savoy aperitivo.”
The cocktail menu includes a unique selection of refined, often forgotten drinks from the peak of the last cocktail era, the 1920s and 30s, along with a custom-made wine list that complements THE DUCHESS’ cuisine with the world’s most exclusive wines and champagnes. The bar has been recognized with several awards, including ‘Best Luxury Restaurant Bar in Europe‘ at the 2017 World Luxury Restaurant Awards, ‘Best Hotel Bar‘ at Esquire’s Best Cocktail Bar Contest 2015, and ‘Best Cocktail Bar’ at the 2015 Entree Awards.
