FUE Sapphire Hair Transplant
The FUE Sapphire (Follicular Unit Extraction Sapphire) technique represents the latest advancement in hair restoration, offering a minimally invasive solution with exceptional results. This cutting-edge method uses a specialized sapphire blade to extract and implant hair follicles, providing more precision and a higher success rate than traditional techniques.
We have travelled to Turkey to experience a hair transplant using the advanced FUE Sapphire technique. Here’s a detailed overview of our experience:
Why Turkey for a FUE Sapphire Hair Transplant?
In Turkey, hair transplants cost three to four times less than in other countries, with over 300 clinics specializing in hair restoration. The majority of Turkish clinics operate under a similar process. They often have an agency or representative in your country to handle all arrangements. Most packages include accommodations, airport transfers, clinic services, and, in some cases, flights (though you may need to book these yourself). Translators are also provided when necessary, ensuring seamless communication throughout the experience.
We chose Hair Upload Clinic based on excellent reviews and their use of the advanced FUE Sapphire technique. The clinic’s photos inspired confidence, and their team was incredibly supportive throughout the entire process.
Upon arriving in Turkey, we had the opportunity to meet Dr. Erkam Caymaz and his interpreter. They thoroughly explained the procedure and walked us through the details of how the FUE Sapphire technique works, putting us completely at ease.
What is FUE Sapphire Hair Transplant?
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure where hair is extracted from a part of the scalp that is unaffected by hair loss (the donor area) and implanted in a new area (the recipient area). The FUE technique is considered the best hair transplant method available today. However, science has taken it a step further by perfecting both the technique and the tools used in the process. In the case of FUE Sapphire, a small sapphire-blade scalpel is used. This blade is known for its precision, helping to minimize damage to the surrounding tissue and allowing for a more natural hairline, which significantly reduces post-operative effects such as bleeding, redness, and scarring.
The procedure begins with the patient receiving local anaesthesia in the donor area to ensure that no discomfort is felt during the process. The hair follicles are then extracted using a micromotor. Typically, hair is taken from the back and sides of the head, areas that are less affected by hair loss.
The follicles are carefully classified, separated, and preserved until it’s time for implantation. Each follicle is handled with exceptional care to avoid damage or deterioration.
Next, small incisions are made to create microchannels where the new follicles will be implanted. One of the key advantages of the FUE Sapphire technique is that these microchannels are much smaller (ranging from 1.0mm to 1.5mm) compared to the standard FUE technique, which means the hair stays in place better while it heals. This precision leads to a more natural-looking result and a smoother healing process.
Advantages of the FUE Sapphire Hair Transplant Technique:
Precision and Accuracy: The sapphire blade’s sharpness allows for smaller, more precise incisions, ensuring a seamless and natural-looking result.
Minimal Discomfort: The procedure is less invasive compared to traditional methods, meaning there’s less discomfort and a quicker recovery time.
Faster Recovery: Due to the precision of the FUE Sapphire technique, patients typically experience faster healing and can return to their normal activities sooner.
Natural Results: The method ensures a high survival rate of transplanted follicles, leading to fuller, more natural hair growth that mimics the patient’s natural hairline.
Reduced Scarring: The small size of the incisions made with the sapphire blade reduces the appearance of scars, ensuring a smooth and discreet recovery.
Ideal Candidates for FUE Sapphire
The FUE Sapphire technique is suitable for individuals experiencing hair loss or thinning in both men and women. It’s particularly beneficial for those looking for a minimally invasive procedure with a natural finish. The technique can be customized to meet the specific needs of each patient, whether it’s restoring a receding hairline, adding density, or addressing areas of baldness.
Day of the Surgery
At 7:30 AM, we were picked up to go to the hospital. The first step is shaving the head with an electric razor to the minimum, leaving the donor area completely shaved.
Next comes the only uncomfortable and painful moment of the entire procedure: the anaesthesia. A series of injections with a needle-free injector, which is a type of tampon that works under pressure. I didn’t count them, but I would estimate there were more than 40. It’s more uncomfortable than painful, but it’s tolerable.
Then, six hours of surgery using the FUE Sapphire technique. It wasn’t painful, just slightly uncomfortable, but manageable. The procedure is divided into three parts: First, they extract the follicles from the donor area; then they make tiny incisions one by one in the recipient area; finally, they implant the follicles into these incisions. In short, they move your hair from one place to another. These are the three steps of the procedure: extraction of the follicle, creation of the channel with a sapphire crystal blade, and implantation of the follicle in its new location.
The Following Days
After spending two nights at the hotel (arguably the most uncomfortable part, as we had to sleep sitting up), we were picked up and taken back to the clinic. There, the bandages were removed, and a gentle cleaning was performed to ensure proper healing.
The medical team then took the time to explain the next steps in the recovery process and provided detailed instructions on how to care for our scalp to encourage healthy hair growth. They also shared the contact information for a dedicated representative who would monitor our progress over the next year. Every few months, we had scheduled check-ins where we sent photos and updates to ensure everything was progressing smoothly.
Post-Operative Care
Post-procedure care is essential for optimal results. Following the FUE Sapphire transplant, patients are usually advised to avoid strenuous activities for a few days and to follow specific instructions for cleaning and caring for the scalp. Most patients begin to notice new hair growth within a few months, with full results visible after around 12 to 18 months.
The FUE Sapphire technique offers a state-of-the-art solution for those looking to restore their hairline with precision, minimal downtime, and natural-looking results. Whether you’re looking to address receding hair or add volume to thinning areas, this advanced method can provide the results you desire with fewer risks and better recovery.
